Meet Our Franchisee of The Year: Bob Sirkis of Fazoli’s in Georgia
Each year, our entire franchise meets to discuss all things Fazoli’s, and to recognize a few members of the Fazoli’s team who have gone above and beyond. This year, during our annual conference in Cancun, we honored our own, Bob Sirkis, as our 2016 Franchisee of The Year.
Today, we’d like to take some time out to help you get to know this Fazoli’s favorite a little bit better – check out his interview with us below:
Q: Where is your Fazoli’s franchise located?
A: I currently own one location in Valdosta, Georgia.
Q: When did you become a Fazoli’s franchisee?
A: I first joined the Fazoli’s franchise system in November 2001 – the fifth of November to be exact!
Q: How many people do you have on staff?
A: Currently, there are about 30 hard-working, dedicated, and absolutely fantastic employees staffing the Valdosta, Georgia restaurant.
Q: How did you first learn about Fazoli’s?
A: Prior to joining Fazoli’s as a franchise owner, I served as the Senior Vice President of New Concepts at Jerrico Inc. from 1987 to 1990. I was tasked with leading the team that created the Fazoli’s concept from the beginning. So, when it came time to decide whether to open my own Fazoli’s restaurant or not, the answer was pretty clear!
Q: How did you get your start in the restaurant industry?
A: My very first foodservice job was selling soft drinks in the stands at Memorial Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland, during Orioles and Colts games while I was in college. From then, it just took off!
Q: Is this your first franchise?
A: No. I was a Boston Chicken/Boston Market franchisee before joining Fazoli’s. In fact, we built a $100 million business across seven states in just two and a half years.
Q: What prompted you to choose Fazoli’s over other franchises?
A: As the leader of the Fazoli’s concept team at Jerrico Inc., I was already very familiar with the brand. That being said, I love the Fazoli’s concept and am as excited about its potential today as I was almost thirty years ago when we were creating the brand.
Q: What did you do prior to franchising with Fazoli’s?
A: Before I solidified my spot as a franchisee, I was an operations and marketing executive with a number of retail and restaurant companies – Dobbs Houses, Pizza Hut, Long John Silvers (Jerrico Inc.) and Silo Electronics. I also served as a consultant to retail and restaurant chains. Most recently, I was the Chief Operating Officer of Movie Gallery.
Q: Where do you currently live? How long have you lived there?
A: I live in Dothan, Alabama with my family, where we have lived for 19 years and counting!
Q: How do you feel about being part of the Fazoli’s brand?
A: We have had our ups and downs as Fazoli’s franchisees, but things have never been as good as they are today. We have an exceptional leader in Carl Howard and he has put together a very strong management team, which he holds accountable for results. Our food is wonderful and with the WOW service we deliver, no brand offers guests better value.
As you can see, Bob Sirkis is a true Fazoli’s rockstar. In fact, this past year, his Valdosta restaurant saw a 7.8 percent growth in sales, and an annual guest increase of 8.4 percent – just two of the reasons why Bob was named Franchisee of the Year for 2016!
