Fazoli’s Named on the Franchise Times’ Top 200+ List for 2017
*Drum roll please* We’re thrilled to announce that for the second year in a row, Fazoli’s has made the Franchise Times’ Top 200+ list!
Now in its 19th year, the Franchise Times’ Top 200+ is a list of the top performing franchisees in America. Fazoli’s is honored to be ranked among the best.
What is The Decision Based On?
Each ranking is primarily based on global systemwide sales and sales compared to last year. But before you can even be considered for a spot on the coveted list, franchisees must meet three requirements:
- The business must be a legal U.S. franchise.
- Franchisees must own at least 15-percent of the company’s total units.
- The company has to be based in America or have at least 10-percent of their total units located in the United States.

Now let’s take a look at how we stacked up against the competition. This year, Fazoli’s:
- Did $234,000,000 in global sales.
- Had 214 nationwide locations (91 of which are franchised units).
So how exactly did we manage to move up four spots in just one year? First and foremost, we experienced unprecedented growth. In 2017, we reached our 17th quarter of same-store sales growth — a rarity in the fast casual dining industry! Our fearless leader, Carl Howard, was also named one of Franchising’s Best Leaders of 2017. Needless to say, we were poised for success from day-one of the New Year!
But we primarily owe this jump in sales and ranking to our menu upgrade. In 2017, we rolled out a new premium menu in our 120 company-owned locations across the country, called Fazoli’s 3.0. As part of the menu revamp, we refined and modernized our menu offerings to bring more flavor and customizable options to meet ever-changing consumer tastes and habits. Understanding tha tour Guests appreciate meals tailored to their preferences, we’ve worked to add more options and promotions like our Create Your Own Lasagna, which allowed guests to choose their sauce, and up to three toppings.
Another part of the menu revamp included adding premium ingredients and offerings such as tableside grated parmesan and upgraded plateware, in addition to other new dishes such as Spicy Penne with Sausage and a Brownie Gelato Sundae.Our 91 franchise locations will feature the newly upgraded menu in summer 2018.
We also began remodeling select locations in 2017 with a new, contemporary look and feel to create a better customer experience for its guests featuring textured white brick and other natural materials, as well as Wi-Fi bars and communal dining tables.
We also ventured into new and unchartered territory last year. In 2016 we opened in Macon and Georgia, and we already had locations in Missouri. In 2017, we opened our first locations (franchise at that) in South Dakota and Connecticut.
Our franchise development team is actively looking for single and multi-unit operators to help put Fazoli’s on the map in in our available markets (including Detroit, Pittsburgh, Dallas, and Charlotte to name just a few), as well as in entirely new territories.
