Fazoli’s Franchisee Jamie Jacobson Sits Down with Franchising World Magazine
What makes a great franchise? In our nearly 30 years of business, we’ve learned that it’s a combination of several things: great food, loyal guests, and happy employees who believe in our mission.
James “Jamie” Jacobson, President of Fazwest Group, LLC., an award-winning franchise group of Fazoli’s, recently spoke with Franchising World Magazine to discuss “How to Gain Employee Buy-In for the Mission.” In layman's terms: How do you get employees to share and support your company’s mission?
“...we recognize that communication built around a common purpose, or mission statement, is a collaborative effort and plays a huge role in our success as a franchise,” said Jamie.
But unlike our mouth-watering Italian pasta dishes, there’s no exact recipe for getting employees to believe in our mission — which is, “to serve America premium quality Italian food, fast, fresh & friendly.” That’s why we work tirelessly with each of our employees to create an atmosphere that makes them excited to come to work everyday.
As Jamie explains, the first step is to discuss with employees the mission statement on day-one of their training or orientation. Then, continue to expand and build on it throughout their time with the company. “Day-to-day, our leadership team enforces these values and communicates the importance of teamwork, which makes all the difference,” continued Jamie.
From there on, it’s incredibly important to reward employees who go above and beyond to help others. At Fazoli’s we frequently give out “morale boosters” to employees. These boosters can be anything from a handwritten note to a raise. The goal is to “reward those who recognize and carry out your team mission.”
Another way Fazoli’s encourages our employees to believe in our mission is through semi-annual employee reviews. These reviews “present an opportunity for our associates to be acknowledged for their efforts and dedication,” said Jamie.
What’s the key takeaway, according to Jamie? “It’s imperative to create an environment where your team feels valued and appreciated. Your organization and entire brand as a whole will reap the benefits of employees who understand and exemplify your mission.”
