Fazoli’s CMO Donna Josephson Weighs in on Better Butter
According to a recent article on Bloomberg.com, Americans seem to be eating more butter than ever before. Fortunately, this may not actually be such a bad thing. Here’s why:
As of late, butter has been regaining traction as a staple ingredient in interesting items like cocktails, coffees, and even menu items from the biggest names in foodservice. In fact, Bloomberg and the Department of Agriculture predict that Americans will eat up to eight-percent more butter this year than they did last year — for a total of 940,000 metric tons of soft, salty, flavorful goodness.
We know what you’re thinking — “but what about the health risks?” Turns out butter has actually been found to be a more wholesome and healthy alternative to margarine and butter substitutes loaded with trans fats. But not so fast: just because butter is a better alternative, that doesn’t negate the negative effects of eating it in surplus! As with all other foods, moderation is always key.
The increase in butter sales and consumption really comes as no surprise in the wake of the recent industry shift to artificial ingredient-free food options — one that the folks here at Fazoli’s have embraced with open arms. In fact, two of our staple items, our twice-baked lasagna and alfredo sauce, were the first to receive a full-out makeover, trading in oil and margarine for pure butter.
“There’s an investment,” said our Chief Marketing Officer Donna Josephson, of the cost associated with swapping out artificial butter for the real deal, “but it’s better.”
That said, Fazoli’s has every intention of being 100% artificial ingredient-free by June 19. We recognize the benefit of ditching artificial ingredients for healthier, fresher options, and are committed to providing the highest and healthiest level of quality for our guests.
