Carl Howard Tells All in Franchise Chatter Q&A
As we mentioned in a recent blog post featuring Fazoli’s franchisees Allen Peake and Mike Chumbley, we want you to get to know our team (and our brand) just as well we do. In late August, our CEO, Carl Howard, sat down with Franchise Chatter to discuss everything from his background to our brand’s growth, future plans and more – in case you missed it, we want to share some of what he had to say with you!
Carl Howard’s Background
Back in June of 2008, Carl was recruited by Sun Capital Partners to become the president and CEO of Fazoli’s Restaurants, Inc. Prior to joining the Fazoli’s team Carl led brands such as bd’s Mongolian Grille and Damon’s – in total, he has over 30 years of experience in the restaurant industry.
Fazoli’s as Fast-Casual
Upon taking over the brand, one of Carl’s main goals was to turn Fazoli’s into more of a fast-casual restaurant rather than a QSR – he has certainly succeeded. In his Q&A with Franchise Chatter Carl states:
“my goals and standards are to always focus on service and quality and not price. We continue to improve our core products and recently upgraded our menu again, increasing quality of ingredients and made-to-order options like the Primo Submarinos, giving customers the flexibility to create dishes catered to their personal preference.”
Along with menu and product upgrades, we’re also working on enhancing our facilities, starting by delivering a more contemporary look and feel. Additionally, we’ve introduced real plateware and silverware to our guests, which has helped us thrive and stay ahead of some of our competitors.

The Fazoli’s Menu
Guests can expect nothing but the best when it comes to our menu. All of the entrées we serve are prepared fresh – pastas, sandwiches, salads, pizza, you name it – and we use only the finest, highest quality ingredients. More information on our most recent menu makeover can be found here.
Fazoli’s Growth and Future Plans
2016 has been quite a year for the Fazoli’s franchise, and we don’t have any plans of slowing down! In 2016 the goal is to open 12 new restaurants (Warner Robins, Georgia had its grand opening on September 27), and we recently signed nine multi-unit and single-unit franchise agreements to develop 22 new restaurants across the nation – be on the lookout for new Fazoli’s restaurants in Dothan, Alabama; Snellville, Georgia; Southern California; Hazard, Kentucky; Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Memphis, Tennessee; McAllen, Texas; Chicago; and Central Indiana.
Right now we’re also extremely proud of the fact that our franchised restaurants are experiencing three times the industry average growth rate, and we’ve also experienced 14 consecutive quarters of same-store sales growth.

We’re looking for single and multi-unit operators to hop on board as we continue to expand. Some of our available markets include Pittsburgh, Detroit, Eastern Ohio, Cincinnati, Knoxville and Cleveland, but we have franchise opportunities available all across the country.
